Scaling and Root Planing

Scaling and Root Planing

Deeper cleaning for gum disease

Scaling and root planing is a nonsurgical treatment used when plaque and tartar collect below the gumline and periodontal disease affects the supporting tissues. It differs from a routine cleaning. Silverlake Dental Group evaluates the depth of gum pockets and the condition of bone support before recommending treatment.

What the procedure involves

The clinician cleans deposits from the tooth surfaces and roots beneath the gums. Treatment may be divided into appointments, with local anesthesia used as appropriate for comfort. Our board-certified periodontist, Dr. Nathan Eshoiee, can coordinate specialist gum care when the condition requires it. We explain the areas being treated and what to expect afterward.

Maintain the improvement

Your gums need time to respond, and a follow-up assessment helps us determine whether further care is needed. Daily brushing and cleaning between teeth support healing, but periodontal disease often requires ongoing professional maintenance. We recommend intervals based on your condition. Tell us about persistent bleeding, swelling, or discomfort so we can review your progress and adjust the plan.
