National Dental Hygiene Month: A Simple Reset for Your Smile
Use October to revisit the basics
National Dental Hygiene Month is a useful reminder to check the routines that protect your teeth and gums. A reset does not require a shelf of new products. Begin with consistent brushing, cleaning between teeth and keeping up with recommended dental visits.
Make your daily routine manageable
Brush twice a day for two minutes with fluoride toothpaste and a soft-bristled brush. Clean between teeth daily using floss or an appropriate interdental tool. Your hygienist can help choose the right size of interdental brush or show you how to use a water flosser.
Limit frequent sugary drinks and snacks, especially between meals. Water is a helpful everyday choice. If your mouth is often dry, discuss medications and other possible causes with your dental or medical team rather than treating dry mouth as a minor inconvenience.
Notice what needs attention
Bleeding gums, persistent bad breath, sensitivity and changes in how your teeth fit together deserve a conversation. Cleaning frequency depends on your oral health; people with a history of gum disease may need a different maintenance schedule. Set one realistic habit this week and build from there.
