Ultrasonic Scalers
A more comfortable way to remove tartar
Silverlake Dental Group uses ultrasonic scalers during professional cleanings and gum therapy. The instrument's tip vibrates at a very high frequency while a fine water spray cools it and rinses the area. That vibration breaks up hardened tartar (calculus) so it can be removed with less scraping than hand instruments alone.
Where it helps
Ultrasonic scaling is useful for routine cleanings with heavier buildup and for scaling and root planing, where deposits below the gumline need careful removal. Our team still uses hand instruments for fine finishing and checks every surface before the cleaning is complete.
What to expect
You will feel a light vibration and hear a soft humming sound, and the water spray is suctioned away as we work. If you have sensitive teeth, let us know: we can adjust the power setting, take short breaks, or discuss numbing options for deeper cleanings. Some patients with certain medical devices or conditions may be treated differently, so please keep your health history current.
